ponting
<HR style="COLOR: transparent" SIZE=1>
We all agree that Ponting is a great great batsman perhaps only second to Bradman when he finishes up. But are there any fans of his Captaincy on here ?
Is he really a great captain or just fortunate to be captaining a great side ? Would any other guy do just as well captaining the same Aussie side

Re: ponting
I think he's a really good captain too. During the 2005 Ashes series Michael Vaughan was the better captain, by a long way. Since then Ponting has really got his act together and his captaincy has improved a lot. He is Australia's 2nd most successful captain after Alan Border.
Re: ponting
not a fan of his captaincy he has a great team that rallies around him and aids him
Fleming is the ultimate captain imo

Re: ponting
Yes true Mannie, having a team like Australia does help a lot with winning. Fleming was a good captain I agree.
Re: ponting
Ponting just has a very good team around him with lots of expierience so they captain themselves basically!
Graeme Smith of South Africa is the same...

yes that's a good point. I bet Ponting doesn't actually have to much with the team he's got. As Leo says, the basically captain themselves.

i dunno. I have his book from 2007 and i think he does a fair bit more than u guys give him credit for. (although i may be a biased aussie) .
I think the better players have helped but nothing massive. Although i do respect stephen fleming tremendously because of his captaincy and what hes done for new zealand cricket.

The thing with having big players is their ego's and trying to all keep them happy aswell, which I feel he has done well!

Re: ponting
but that would also be down to the Coach, management, back room staff etc etc
I dont think this team has BIGG ego players like in the past!!!
I mean I think Alan Border had more of a problem with that more than Ponting and his playground buddies.

Re: ponting
Think ponting has allways had it a bit easy if things went wrong in the past he could asllways through the ball to Warne or Mcragh now he can do the same with Lee. A good point ids he hasn't let it effect his batting.

Re: ponting
thats why they say a batsmen makes a good captain, since he can lead the way through his batting
also i think Ponting hasnt been under much pressure when he bats, since the Team is hardly up against the wall from its opposition.
Pressure being a main factor in how your innings goes.
